Thank you for using Radiant Photo 2. We truly appreciate your passion for the product and your feedback. This update further improves our color grading tools and options when saving photos. We strive to provide high-quality software and closely examine the bugs and feature requests we receive through our tech support team.
This is an in-depth look at the new features and improvements released with Radiant Photo (v. 2.0.2). This is primarily a performance update release based on customer feedback and requests. Still, a few new additions were also ready to ship.
Faster Cropping
Launching the Crop tool now enters an active crop state. This saves the step of having to click the Start Cropping button. We’ve also made it easier to apply or cancel a crop.
- Press the C key or click the Crop icon to launch cropping
- Choose a desired shape using the Aspect ratio menu.
- Adjust the crop as desired using the crop handles or straighten slider
- Choose how to use the crop:
- To apply the crop, press the Return/Enter key or click Apply Crop.
- To cancel a crop, press the Escape key.
- To restart a crop, press the C key or click the Start cropping button.
Faster Reset for Crop & Straighten Tool
Now, resetting the Straighten tool to its default position is even easier. Simply double-click the straighten slider to instantly return it to 0°—a quick and efficient way to reset when needed.
Hide adjustments when cropping
While cropping, the adjustments panel on the right is temporarily hidden. This enhances performance and stability, ensuring that edits are applied only after cropping is complete for precise pixel accuracy. To return to adjustments, apply the Crop to the image.
Note: Please note that the Photoshop plugin does not support cropping. This is because Photoshop does not allow a plugin to change the size of the image canvas while using a plugin.
New & Improved Zoom Controls
You can zoom in and out using your mouse or trackpad for a more intuitive experience. This includes:
- Mouse Scroll Wheel – Scroll up to zoom in, down to zoom out.
- Trackpad Gestures – Use a two-finger drag or pinch-to-zoom for smooth control.
- Zoom Buttons – Easily inspect image details, with the current zoom level displayed in the upper-left corner of the UI.
Tip: Double-click an image to quickly toggle between Fit to Screen and 100% Magnification.
Improved Clipping Indicators
The histogram can help you understand how the pixels in your image are distributed according to intensity. Shadow details are shown on the left, midtones in the middle, and highlights on the right. The histogram is a helpful way to judge the exposure of your image.
You can click either square on the edges of the histogram to show clipping. Use the one on the left for crushed blacks in the shadows, and use the box on the right for blown highlights that are pure white.
Tip: Press the J key to toggle both clipping indicators on or off.
- Blue areas show cold pixels that lack detail in the shadows
- Red areas are hot pixels that lack details in the highlights.
This release has changed the clipping points. Clipping indicators will now trigger when you have an area that registers with a value of either 0 or 255 on an RGB scale (such as 0:0:0 for pure white).
If needed, you can use the manual sliders for Tone or (including White Point and Black Point) to recover details.
